Space Rocks is a momentum-based space shooter. Rotate your ship, thrust to move, and shoot drifting rocks. Large rocks split into smaller pieces when hit.
Clear the field while avoiding collisions. Wrap-around edges let you escape off one side and re-enter the other.
Rocks start at 0.06 of the screen width and split exactly once: a hit breaks a rock into two halves only while it is larger than 0.03, and those halves are too small to split again. The fragments also inherit 1.5× the parent's velocity with one axis reversed, so breaking a rock always makes the field more chaotic, never calmer.
Wave difficulty enters through a speed factor of 1 + 0.12 × (wave − 1), capped at 2. That cap is reached around wave 9, so the first eight waves get measurably faster and everything after that is flat.
Controls
- Arrow Left / Right — Rotate ship
- Arrow Up — Thrust forward
- Space — Fire
- Start — Begin (Space if not started)
Tips & Tricks
- 1Keep moving — a stationary ship is an easy target
- 2Break large asteroids early before they crowd the screen
- 3Use screen wrap to escape tight clusters
- 4Short bursts of thrust give better control than holding
- 5A rock only splits once, so the field never grows past double the starting count — the danger peaks early and then shrinks
- 6Fragments fly off at 1.5× speed with one axis flipped, so never sit directly where the parent was heading
- 7Thrust works in the direction you point, which means rotating first and thrusting second is the only way to steer
Frequently Asked Questions
Do asteroids split?
Yes, but only once. A rock larger than 0.03 breaks into two halves; those halves are too small to split again.
Is there friction?
No. Momentum carries the ship — plan thrust and rotation together, because counter-thrusting is the only brake you have.
Does the game work on mobile?
Yes. On-screen rotation, thrust, and fire buttons make touch play comfortable on any phone.
How does difficulty ramp?
Each wave raises the speed factor by 0.12 starting from 1.0, until it caps at 2.0 around wave 9.
How do fragments move after a split?
Each half keeps 1.5 times the parent's speed, with one of the two velocity axes reversed, so they scatter in opposite directions.
What happens if I fly off the edge?
You wrap around to the opposite side. This applies to asteroids too, so a rock leaving the right edge can come back from the left.
