Ludo is a browser board race. Each player has four tokens that start in their home base. On your turn, roll the die and move one token forward along the track that wraps around the board.
The path runs clockwise from your colored start square, all the way around the outer ring, and then turns into your private home column leading to the center finish. You must travel the full loop before cutting into your home stretch — and you need exact rolls to land the final step into the center.
Landing on a square occupied by a single opponent token (outside the safe star squares) captures it and sends that token all the way back to its base. The first player to bring all four tokens safely to the center wins. Roll a six and you get to roll and move again — but three sixes in a row forfeits your turn.
The board is a 15×15 grid with 52 squares on the shared outer ring and four private home columns of five or six squares each. Because a capture sends a token all the way back to base — costing it a full lap of 52 squares — a single well-timed hit is usually worth more than two safe moves.
Controls
- Roll Dice button or R / Space — roll the die on your turn
- Click a highlighted token — select which piece to move
- 1–4 keys — quickly select token 1–4 if it can move
- vs AI mode — you are Red, the computer plays the other colors
- 2 Players mode — pass-and-play for Red, Green, Yellow, Blue
Tips & Tricks
- 1Get your tokens out of base early — you need a six to leave, and the first tokens on the board reach home sooner
- 2Use the four safe star squares to park tokens where opponents cannot capture them
- 3Spread your tokens out so a single opponent roll cannot capture more than one
- 4Capture aggressively when safe — sending a rival back to base costs them an entire lap
- 5Plan your home stretch: you must roll the exact number to finish, so keep flexible tokens ready
- 6A capture costs the victim a full 52-square lap, so one hit is usually worth more than two safe advances of your own
- 7You need a six to leave base — with only a one-in-six chance per turn, spending early turns bringing tokens out is rarely wasted
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I win at Ludo?
Move all four of your tokens from base, around the board, and into the center finish before any opponent does. You need an exact roll to land the final step.
What happens when I land on an opponent?
On a normal square you capture their token and send it back to base. Star squares are safe — tokens there cannot be captured.
Can I play Ludo against the computer?
Yes. In vs AI mode you play as Red and the computer controls the other three colors. There is also a 2-player hotseat mode.
Why do I get another turn after a six?
Rolling a six grants a bonus roll. Three sixes in a row forfeits the turn, a standard Ludo rule that keeps the game fair.
How big is the board?
A 15×15 grid, with 52 squares on the shared outer ring plus a private home column for each colour.
How do I get a token out of base?
Roll a six. Until you do, that token cannot enter play at all.
