Tic Tac Toe is the classic 3×3 line game for two players sharing one device. X always opens, players alternate, and the first to line up three of their marks horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins. If all nine squares fill with no line, it is a draw.
Every square is a tap: tap an empty cell and your mark appears immediately, then the turn passes. Occupied squares are disabled, and once a winner is decided the whole board locks until you reset.
This version is a pure local two-player board — there is no computer opponent and no difficulty setting. That makes it a clean way to demonstrate why the game is solved: with best play from both sides, X cannot force a win and every game ends in a draw. The interesting part is not winning but spotting the fork — a move that creates two separate winning threats at once, which the opponent can only answer once.
Controls
- Tap an empty square - Place X or O for the current player
- Reset button - Clear the board and start a new game
- Sound button - Mute or unmute feedback
Tips & Tricks
- 1Take the centre if it is free — it sits on four of the eight winning lines, versus three for a corner and two for an edge
- 2If your opponent opened in the centre, answer in a corner; a corner reply is the only response that does not lose to a fork
- 3Always check for an immediate three-in-a-row before anything else, on both sides
- 4Build a fork: two lines with two of your marks and one empty square each, sharing that empty square
- 5Corners beat edges because each corner belongs to three lines while each edge belongs to only two
- 6As the second player, taking a corner after a centre opening gives the best drawing chances
- 7Watch the opponent's pairs, not only your own — most losses come from blocking one move too late
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an AI opponent?
No. This is a local two-player game — two people take turns on the same device.
Can you force a win at Tic Tac Toe?
No. With best play from both players every game is a draw; a win only appears when someone misses a block or a fork.
What is a fork?
A move that creates two separate winning threats at the same time. Your opponent can only block one, so the other wins on your next turn.
What is the best opening move?
The centre, because it participates in four winning lines. If the centre is taken, a corner is the next strongest.
Who goes first?
X always opens, and turns alternate automatically after every placement.
What happens when the board fills up?
If all nine squares are filled with no three-in-a-row, the game is a draw and the board locks until you reset.
