Word Games7
Four word games with small, fixed vocabularies — group-finding, letter guessing, word search, and a mini crossword.
About Word Games
Word Groups is the headline game here. You get sixteen words in a four-by-four grid and have to find four groups of four that share a hidden theme — fruit, rhymes, or things that are red, for example. You are allowed only four mistakes, so the practical technique is to bank the obvious group first and watch for words that plausibly fit two categories.
Hangman is the quickest game on the shelf. The word list is small and deliberate: fifteen programming and technology terms from five to eleven letters, all uppercase — REACT, GAMING, ALGORITHM, DATABASE, FRAMEWORK and PROGRAMMING among them. Because the pool is only fifteen words and the theme is fixed, letter frequency works with you rather than against you, and six wrong guesses is the limit.
Word Search hides a short, themed list in a 10x10 grid that you solve by dragging in straight lines — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, forward or backward. The list is eight words: REACT, GAME, CODE, WEB, APP, FUN, PLAY and WIN. Several are only three or four letters, so they often hide inside or across longer ones, which is why searching for the longest entries first saves time.
Crossword Lite is the smallest puzzle here: a fixed 5x5 grid with five entries, three across (REACT, GAME, CODE) and two down (WEB, APP), with programming-flavoured clues. With only five words, nearly every letter is checked by a crossing entry, so filling the short words first anchors the longer ones.
The vocabulary across this shelf is intentionally tech-flavoured and short. That makes these games unusually friendly if you are learning English in a technical context, and unusually quick to finish if you already know the terms — most rounds take under three minutes.
All four games are pointer-driven, with an on-screen keyboard or letter pad where typing is needed, so they behave the same way on a phone and a desktop.
Word Games — Frequently Asked Questions
How hard are the word lists?
Short and themed. Hangman uses fifteen programming and technology terms, Word Search hides eight words in a 10x10 grid, and the crossword is a fixed 5x5 with five entries.
Is Word Groups timed?
No clock runs, but mistakes are limited: four wrong groupings end the puzzle. That makes it a thinking game rather than a speed game.
Can I play with a keyboard instead of tapping?
Yes. Hangman and Crossword Lite accept physical keyboard input on desktop and use an on-screen letter pad on touch devices.
How many mistakes am I allowed in Hangman?
Six wrong guesses. Each incorrect letter adds a piece to the hangman drawing, and the word must be solved before the seventh would land.
Do words read backwards in Word Search?
Yes. Words can run forward or backward along any straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — so a drag in either direction can be a valid selection.
Are these games good for English learners?
Yes, particularly Hangman and the crossword. The vocabularies are small, fixed, and themed around technology, so the same terms recur across rounds and become familiar quickly.
