Snake is played on a 20x20 grid — 400 cells in all. Your snake moves one cell at a time and cannot stop; you only choose which way it turns. Eating a food dot adds 10 points and makes the snake one segment longer, and a new dot appears somewhere else on the grid.
The pace is fixed: the snake advances one cell every 150 milliseconds, roughly 6.7 cells per second, and it never speeds up no matter how high your score gets. What changes is the available room — your own body becomes the obstacle.
A run ends the moment the head touches a wall or any part of your own tail. Your high score is stored in this browser, so it survives a reload on the same device.

Tips & Tricks
- 1At 150 ms per cell you get about a sixth of a second per move, so decide the next turn while the snake is still travelling, not after it arrives
- 2Hug the outer wall and run the perimeter — the border of a 20x20 grid is 76 cells, and circling it keeps your body behind you instead of across your path
- 3After eating, check that the head still has two or three free cells around it; the extra segment only costs you space on the next few turns
- 4Skip food in a corner or against a wall when your tail is nearby — the 10 points are not worth boxing yourself in
- 5Once you pass roughly 60 segments, treat the middle of the board as a trap and keep to the outer lanes
- 6Never reverse into your own neck; a 180-degree turn is the one move that ends the run instantly at any length
- 7Pause with P before looking away — the timer does not wait for you
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the snake get faster as my score rises?
No. The step interval is a constant 150 milliseconds for the whole run. The difficulty comes from your own length, not from speed.
How many points is each food worth?
10 points, and one extra body segment. There is no bonus for eating quickly or in sequence.
How big is the play area?
20 cells by 20, so 400 cells in total. A perfect run would fill the board, though the wall and your own tail make that practically impossible.
What ends the run?
The head touching the outer boundary or any segment of your own body. Running into yourself is just as fatal as hitting a wall.
Can I cross my own tail?
No. Any contact with your own body ends the run immediately, which is why the perimeter route is the safest habit to build.
Where is my high score saved?
Locally in this browser on this device. Clearing site data or switching browsers resets it.
