Minesweeper is a deduction grid: uncover every safe square without detonating a mine. This board is fixed at 10 rows by 10 columns with 15 mines, so 100 squares hide 15 hazards and your target is to reveal all 85 safe ones. That is a 15% mine density — dense enough that early guesses matter, sparse enough that a good opening cascade usually clears a large region.
Left-click reveals a square. If it is a mine the game ends immediately. If it is safe, it shows a digit from 1 to 8 counting the mines among its eight neighbours. A square with no neighbouring mines is blank, and revealing it automatically floods outward to every connected blank and the numbered border around them — that cascade is where most of the board gets cleared.
Right-click toggles a flag on a covered square. Flags are bookkeeping only: they do not disarm anything and the game never checks them for victory. They do protect you, because a flagged square refuses to reveal. You win purely by revealing all 85 non-mine squares.
Note that the grid is generated when the board loads, not after your first click, so opening moves carry real risk.
Controls
- Left click - Reveal a square
- Right click - Place or remove a flag on a covered square
- New Game button - Generate a fresh 10×10 board with 15 mines
- Sound button - Mute or unmute feedback
Tips & Tricks
- 1Open in the middle rather than a corner: a cascade from the centre touches more squares and is far more likely to hit a blank region
- 2The core rule: if a numbered square has exactly as many covered neighbours as its digit, every one of those neighbours is a mine
- 3The mirror rule: if a satisfied number's flags are already placed, every remaining covered neighbour is safe — click them freely
- 4A 1 on the board edge is worth more than a 1 in the middle, because an edge square has only five neighbours instead of eight
- 5Flag as you deduce, not at the end — an unflagged mine is the most common way to lose a solved board
- 6Track the flag counter against 15; when it reads 15 and every number is satisfied, the rest of the board is safe
- 7Leave genuine guessing for last: with 15% density most boards open up logically, and guessing early throws away information
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the first click always safe?
No. The board is generated when it loads, so your first click can hit a mine. Opening near the centre maximises the chance of a useful cascade.
How many mines are there?
Exactly 15 on a 10×10 grid, so 85 of the 100 squares must be revealed to win.
Can I pick a difficulty level?
No. This version ships one fixed board size: 10×10 with 15 mines.
Do flags actually disarm mines?
No. Flags are purely a memory aid. They block you from revealing that square, but the game never compares them to the real mine positions.
Is there chord clicking or a flag-mode hotkey?
No. Reveal with left click and flag with right click; there is no double-click chord and no keyboard shortcuts.
How do I win?
Reveal all 85 safe squares. Flag count and accuracy are not part of the win condition.
