Memory Cards is a classic concentration puzzle. Flip cards to find matching emoji pairs. Remember positions and clear the board in as few moves as possible.
All cards start face-down. Flip two per turn — matching pairs stay revealed; mismatches flip back.
The deck is eight emoji — gamepad, target, dice, guitar, artist palette, theatre masks, circus tent and clapperboard — each appearing twice for sixteen cards on a 4×4 grid. Because every pair is a distinct picture rather than a subtle variant, the difficulty is purely positional memory: you are remembering where things are, not what they look like.
There is no timer and no fail state, so the only score that matters is how many flips it takes you.
Controls
- Click / tap card — Flip a card
- Restart — New shuffled board
Tips & Tricks
- 1Flip systematically row by row to build a mental map
- 2When you see a match, pair it immediately on your next turn
- 3Track odd cards you have seen once — they are your next targets
- 4Fewer moves mean a better memory score
- 5On the first pass, flip two unknown cards you have never touched rather than one known and one unknown — you learn more per flip
- 6Once a pair is found, those two squares become landmarks; use them to anchor the positions of everything nearby
- 7With eight pairs, a perfect run is 8 flips if you are lucky and 24 if you are not, so anything under 16 is a solid result
Frequently Asked Questions
How many pairs?
Eight emoji pairs on a 4×4 grid — sixteen cards total.
Is there a timer?
No timer. Focus on minimizing moves.
Can I lose?
No. There is no fail state — every board can always be finished, only your flip count changes.
Are the emoji easy to tell apart?
Yes. All eight are visually distinct objects, so mistakes come from forgetting a position rather than misreading a symbol.
Does the board shuffle the same way twice?
No. Each restart reshuffles the sixteen cards into new positions.
How many cards flip per turn?
Exactly two. If they match they stay face-up; if not, both flip back down.
