Word Groups is a word puzzle. You are shown sixteen words in a four-by-four grid. Your task is to find four groups of four words that share a hidden theme — types of fruit, things that rhyme, or words that are red, for example. Select four words you think belong together and submit them; if correct, the group is locked and removed. You are allowed only four mistakes before the puzzle ends. Themes get trickier from easy to hard.
The arithmetic is unforgiving: sixteen words split into exactly four groups, so every word belongs to precisely one. That means a group is confirmed as much by elimination as by recognition — once three groups are locked, the fourth is whatever is left, no matter how unrelated it looks.
A wrong guess does not just cost a life, it tells you the four words you chose are not a group, which is the most information you get from a single move.
Controls

Tips & Tricks
- 1Look for the easiest, most obvious group first
- 2Watch for red herrings that fit two categories
- 3Use Shuffle when stuck on a layout
- 4Save the trickiest group for last
- 5Every word belongs to exactly one group, so as groups lock, the leftovers define the final set — you often know the last group without understanding it
- 6A wrong guess is data: it rules out one specific four-word combination, so pick guesses that test a hypothesis rather than a hunch
- 7Shuffle physically separates words you have been reading as neighbours, which is usually enough to break a false grouping
Frequently Asked Questions
How many mistakes can I make?
Four. After the fourth wrong group, the puzzle ends.
What makes a valid group?
Four words that share a single clear, specific theme chosen by the puzzle.
Can I play on mobile?
Yes — tap words to select and submit with a button.
How many words and groups are there?
Sixteen words in a 4×4 grid, forming four groups of four.
Can a word belong to two groups?
No. Each of the sixteen words belongs to exactly one group, which is why elimination works.
What does a wrong guess tell me?
That those four words are not a group — useful, because it narrows which combinations remain possible.
